I’m really glad to be a part of The Bitter Pill Social Club blog tour being hosted by Bloomsbury India. If you can’t imagine my surprise at realizing that there’s a mix-tape involved, recall 2-3 of the biggest cliffhangers you’ve read and multiply that tenfold. No, seriously. Playlists in books? Sure, I’ve read that. But playlists for books? That’s not just any book, my friend, that’s a complete experience; one you’re unlikely to forget. If you’re a reader and you’ve been hovering anywhere near the Indian book publishing scene, you would have heard of The Bitter Pill Social Club by Rohan Dahiya. It is a contemporary fiction, bringing to the spotlight the kind of characters we’ve surely encountered atleast once in our life – those who revel in the glitz and glamour, those who’re born feeling entitled to the best of the best and those who are used to “escaping” their problems. Head over to the Goodreads page, for more information about the book.
Now before I gave in to all the hype that the synopsis has built up and devoured the book, I thought it essential to soak up the vibes that the playlist was creating. To start of, the author has chosen this slow, acoustic number titled, No. 1 Party Anthem by the Arctic Monkeys. It’s the kind of song I would be blissfully swaying to, a LIIT in hand at a bar. Then when Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys’ vocalist) sings, “Be cruel to me ’cause I’m a fool for you“, I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of (if any) unrequited love situations we may encounter in the book. The next few songs sound out some of the realizations and insecurities that lovers sometimes have. After the first 6 songs, Arctic Monkeys pave the way for Floor Cry’s Freak Show. A majority of the songs on the playlist are slow melodies with some exceptions. One of my favourite tracks is the livelier rendition by Lana Del Rey called Florida Kilos.
If not for this playlist, I would never have heard some of these music genres. I’m sure there’s something for everyone in it. So, make sure to check out the playlist before or while you read the book; you’ll discover some new artists!
Also, a lot of the announcements and reading updates are going to be posted on Instagram, so make sure to follow the bloggers and the hashtag ( #BitterPillSocialClub ). I have two more blog posts lined up for this tour on my blog over the course of May and tons of content for the other social media platforms. I can’t wait to dive into the book!
Hope you all enjoy the songs as well as the novel!
I LOVED the playlist! 😍 You’re absolutely right, having a special playlist for the book makes the reading experience so much cooler! ❤️
Ikr! There’s just something very soothing about a majority of the tracks in the playlist. I especially loved No. 1 Party Anthem 😀
