Chapters Indispensable

I had written this poem a while back for an assignment in college. It’s about changing times and indifference.

Fragments of disillusioned reality bent
Over me. For long, I couldn’t see.
The whispers of little birds admonished
Carefree. Not a tune out of place for your
Eulogy. Bond forlorn, by your labyrinth
Of manners. It’s I who didn’t believe the change in
Loyal banners. Today’s smile is tomorrow’s
Empty eyes. Never asked if my faith would
Suffice. Meet your mark, will it?
Keep you captive, does it?

To each their own – love, life & cheer.
But I stood aside and let perceptions smear.
In that, an unceasing reminder
Of the tilted scales rendering asunder.
Today, now, far from the yearning.
Humor at my attempts & wonting.
Liberated is mine, self & all.
No longer the sole efforts, no more the
Turned backs. Instead of times gone wrong, our
Shared bliss, will replace any goodbye bitterness.

Mia.
