Book Review – Inner Demons by Sarra Cannon

Harper Madison  is not one to dance and cheer nor is she a fashion conscious, style icon, IT girl. So when she is selected to become part of the Demons cheerleading squad, Harper can barely believe her luck. What she soon realizes is that, the squad is nothing like she expected. They barely ever practice routines or cheers. The squad comprises of witches who are trained secretly to be initiated into the Order of Shadows. Years of misfortune finally make sense to Harper! This is where she belongs, with people like her, to answer her questions and help her get in control of the magic bubbling inside of her. So then why does it all feel so wrong? Certain things are a little hazy in her mind but shouldn’t she focus more on this new found power? Moreover her relationship with Drake Ashworth, quarterback of Demons football team, a tad bit confusing to her. Being liked by someone so rich and handsome should make her immensely happy right? Then why can’t she make up her mind about him?

The second installment in the series, is better than the first in many ways. I was so happy to see Harper get all the love and affection from the fellow cheerleaders and the elders in town. Harper, Brooke, Allison an Lark become very close. And ultimately she is now included in all their sleepovers, parties and hangouts. Initially I was a bit sceptic as to why the behaviour of the so called popular gang changed abruptly towards Harper. But towards the end, it only seems right. There was a point of time when I wanted to shake Harper so violently, hoping she would snap back to reality. The magic was getting to her head. I wish there was more of Jackson  in this book but well… it wouldn’t have fit right with the story… so, nevermind. The author’ has written the book in such simple language that it goes to prove, you don’t need plenty of big words to have a huge captive audience (just a good enough storyline). Among the 3 cheerleaders, I immediately grew fond of Lark. She seemed like the perfect, understanding friend that Harper needs. What I like even more about these books is that mostly all chapters end with a suspense. So there is absolutely no chance that you can put down the book with any excuse. 😛

Rating – 5 star
